Building More Than Homes: Thorwin Properties’ Support for Habitat for Humanity Manitoba

There is something pretty special about seeing a family receive the keys to a home they helped build.

Recently, Habitat for Humanity Manitoba welcomed four local families into new homes at its Pandora Avenue West development in Transcona. For those families, it was more than moving day. It was the start of a new chapter, built through hard work, commitment, and a lot of heart.

Habitat for Humanity Manitoba’s approach is simple, but powerful. Families put in volunteer hours, take part in financial education, and contribute sweat equity toward their future home. They are not just handed a key. They work toward it. They build for it. And when that door finally opens, it means something.

That is what makes the Pandora Avenue West community so meaningful. As Habitat Manitoba’s largest development to date, the 55-home community is helping more families find stability, pride, and a place to truly call their own.

Thorwin Properties is proud to have played a small part in that work.

As a Title Home Sponsor, Thorwin Properties was recognized in Habitat for Humanity Manitoba’s 2025 Annual Report among major donors contributing between $100,000 and $249,999. For Thorwin, this recognition is an honour, but the real achievement is knowing that the support helps families move closer to safe, stable homeownership.

Housing is what Thorwin does every day. But this partnership is a reminder that housing is about more than buildings, suites, and floor plans. It is about people. It is about families. It is about giving someone a place where they can feel settled, secure, and hopeful about what comes next.

Thorwin team members also had the opportunity to take part in a Habitat Team Build, working alongside Habitat staff, volunteers, and future homeowners. It was hands-on, meaningful work, the kind that reminds you very quickly that community support is not just something you talk about. Sometimes, you put on the hard hat and get to work.

For Kris Thorkelson, President and Owner of Thorwin Properties, supporting Habitat for Humanity Manitoba reflects a belief in giving back close to home. As a local Winnipegger, Kris understands that strong communities are built when people and businesses step up where they can. Not for the spotlight. Not for the applause. But because helping families build a better future is simply the right thing to do.

Winnipeg has always been a city where people show up for one another. Sometimes that means lending a hand to a neighbour. Sometimes it means supporting local organizations doing important work. And sometimes it means helping build homes that will change the lives of families for years to come.

Thorwin Properties is grateful to support Habitat for Humanity Manitoba and the important work they continue to do across the province.

Habitat for Humanity Manitoba welcomed four local families into new homes at its Pandora Avenue West development in Transcona. Through volunteer hours, financial education, and hands-on “sweat equity,” these families earned an affordable path to homeownership. As a proud Title Home Sponsor, Thorwin Properties helped support Habitat’s mission of creating safe, stable housing for Manitoba families. For Kris Thorkelson, President and Owner of Thorwin Properties, this partnership reflects the importance of local businesses giving back and helping build stronger communities, one family and one home at a time.

Because at the end of the day, a home is not just four walls and a roof. It is where families grow, where kids feel safe, where memories are made, and where people finally get the chance to breathe a little easier.

Thorwin is proud to help support that mission, one home, one family, and one community at a time.
